My goal was to stick as closely to the program as possible and establish some different habits. The accountability meetings were really helpful but I’ve also learned to be accountable to myself. Over the last 6 weeks during the New Year New You Challenge, I found I could do more that I felt capable of doing. This journey is a long one, but far from finished. Being in the contest helps me to focus on keeping my food journal and making my workouts. Maintaining my nutrition is definitely the hardest thing for me to do. I will need to continue to discover my “triggers” and work to overcome them so that I can follow the proper nutrition plan.
I still have goals to strive towards, but I am close to get my blood work for my cholesterol and AIC down to where it is suppose to be and I no longer take any meds for insulin resistance. My overall strength and muscle development in my arms, legs, gluts, and back is great so now my abs need to get back in! When this 8 Week Jeans Challenge started I was ready to get back on track with the eating although I was just starting back to working out and was limited in what I could do. The 1st week was tough but I soon got into a routine and at the 3 week point my pants that had gotten quite snug had been feeling not as tight. That is a major motivation for me when I can see/feel the changes. Some weeks were better than others but overall I am back on track with my eating habits. My X meals most of the time are even better and I am not pigging out like I had in the past.
I truly enjoy the support of the weekly meeting, being able to share struggles and help each other as we are all fighting the same battles with food.

I started out with much hesitation that results would be permanent and found over the last 6 weeks during the New Year New You Challenge how realistic my new eating and exercise habits could become. For the first time in my life I have accomplished eating and exercise goals without being perfect! What a relief that perfection is not the goal but overall health is. This journey has helped me transition to living a healthier lifestyle. For me, this challenge is not just a 6 week challenge, it has been a journey in the right direction – to a place I know I need to be and want to be. I live a very busy life so the main obstacle for me was the meal planning especially on the weekends. Family events, birthdays, were a challenge. "The week after the first boot camp I went on a 6 mile run at the beach and it was as if I'd swallowed the Easter bunny I bounced along so much! It was a glorious run and felt so easy!! I think that it's in large part due to all the lower body work we do. My legs feel much stronger and I'm getting my hammies and quads back!! While traveling, I was disappointed to lose my glutes (before my trip I could squat 225lbs!) and that was something I tried to work on with my trainer with disappointing results (there was no squat rack at the gym so I couldn't go heavy). But I can tell you now, after my time in boot camp that the butt is back!!!! I (and my boyfriend!!) thank you for every squat, lunge and mountain climbers etc you make me do!
Lastly, abs. My core is definitely tightening up a lot, I can feel the muscle, but I'm missing the crunches. Perhaps we tackle this with different exercises but I'd love a few more.
I love your constantly positive, upbeat attitude. You are a great role model for living clean and looking and feeling great because of it. In fact, your attitude is one of the major reasons for me returning. I've also been really impressed with your total approach teaching us about living well. Most exercise classes end when we leave the gym, however your presentations, your nutritional advice and your constantly updated website are incredibly motivating and educational. It is obvious that you have a personal desire to see us improve and to learn to adapt every aspect of our life to maximize fitness and wellbeing. "I find that sticking to the special meal plan designed for me is really very easy. I always thought that a "diet" would starve me and make me hungry all of the time. Consequently, I have never in my life been on a diet. I've watched friends and family diet and they've always given up because the regimen just wasn't realistic, or was too restrictive. Since I have been following the True North Fitness meal plans, I have not felt hungry at all. I'm not eating less. I am eating more, and more often. And I particularly like that it is okay to have an "off meal" once a week. It's okay, and expected, that I relax and eat the things I love, not cut them out completely.
This week I turned 40. My husband wanted to have a family night with my folks and our kids one night, and take me out to dinner the following night. I thought, "uh-oh," 2 off meals...that's not in the program. I asked him to make something I could adapt into my meal plan for the family night, and I'd have my off meal when we went out. That worked out. We grilled chicken and asparagus; roasted some new potatoes and I got to have a slice of gorgeous, chocolate birthday cake. Yum. Then, the next night, I had my off meal of fillet mignon with sauce all over it, mashed potatoes and grilled veggies. I even had a couple bites of my husband's sundae. And guess what? I went to my nutrition meeting 2 days later and I'd lost fat and gained lean muscle.
Point proven? A supportive diet is one that supports not only your workout, but supports your mental health, too. I just could not follow a meal plan that would never let me eat some of the foods I love. I just wouldn't stick to it.
I am just so thankful that Rob & Shannon have created this program. I love being in my 27 jeans now (and they were 31 when we started). It is hard work, but is so easy to follow.
